This large, body sized work is a distillation of several on-site sketches created on Oyster Bay, Long Island. Painted using traditional oil painting methods, the picture consists of layers of impasto paint laid atop heavyweight canvas sized with PVA and primed with an oil ground that cures for 6 weeks before painting begins.

Painted in my Brooklyn studio over the summer of 2016, this image went through a creative process of abstract reduction from more detailed sketches to achieve the light and airy quality of the moment on a lazy, summer afternoon in the sun on the bay, right before one doses off for a nap.
